I really enjoyed this book. I met him once, having gone to school with his son. Mr. Roberts speaks from his heart as he tells the story of his upbringing and how he overcame much adversity. This isn't just a horse lover's story, although equine handlers will obtain a unique view on how to handle their four legged partners. This book is for anyone out there in the world just trying to survive. Very inspirational.

More then just another horse book. This book is for non-horse and horse folks alike.
Why?
Because the insightful sensativity of this author shows us a way to a life that can be, if we let it flow.

Personally, I disliked this book. Monty's methods are like Clinton Anderson's where "round penning" is concerned, but I don't believe in the theories behind his methods. I couldn't stand to read more than 3 or 4 chapters. It was well written, I just don't believe Monty's philosophy. His father was a heavy-handed-"horse breaker" so Monty set out to be as gentle as possible...which is good, but for a horse to respect you a person must also be as firm as necessary. Before I discovered Downunder Horsemanship and started training my horse with Clinton Anderson's methods and seeing amazing results I might have liked this book and now I discovered real natural horsemanship....no the lovely-dovey touchy-feely "peace with the horse" junk. Sorry, to disappoint, but those are my thoughts. Please try reading Clinton's books. You'll be surprised!

This is a surprising book and an exceptionally nice surprise at that. I bought it thinking it would be a nice read about horses, a topic I am mildly interested in. The book turned out to be an insightful look at people and one man's ability to transform his relationships with horses and with people to gain their trust. A really good book; I highly recommend it.

A far better read than the novel adapted for the movie! Many truths about life and those who really listen, watch and apply realities to problems and situations. This man works with horses on the horses terms, and in turn the horses work for him. How sweet the world would be if in all situations we took the time to understand those we wish to partner with, and use that information to get along cooperatively.

This book was really interesting to me. I knew of and appreciated the experience of non verbal communication with dogs and cats. Not having any experience with horses, it was an eye opener on how this man used his observations to gently teach horses to work with humans. Was a wonderful reminder on how communication and kindness can open doors. it was wonderful how he rejected his own childhood experiences of cruelty, and decided to follow another way.

Excellent book! I am so glad I read this book as I feel that I know so much more about Monty Roberts, his character, integrity, and beliefs. This is in addition to his relationship with horses. A good read.

This is a life chanign book. Not only will you learn about the spirit of horses, but it teaches a great deal about the spirit of humans. It was a New York Times bestseller and made into a movie--that's how wonderful this true story is.

If you want to be able to understand where people are coming from, beyond the words they say, this audio book will get you started observing and intuiting what people mean by how they act and what they do.
