Really good book, prequel to The McKettrick Way. 4 CDs. Listened to one time.

I picked up this abridged edition at a library sale and settled in my car for a trip one state over. Listening to the western took me back to my childhood days and watching Saturday or Sunday afternoon matinees on tv, when Audie Murphy flicks often came on. And while this was well-read and sufficiently entertaining for the car ride, listeners should be warned that the last CD contains sex scenes not suitable for young ears. In a way, that's too bad, because until then I really had been transported back to my youth.

Linda Lael Miller tells a interesting story of a good guy (Sam O'Ballivan) working under cover for the Arizona Ranger. The story has several twist and turns, that eventually leads him to success in his ranger duties and success in love with his soul mate. It is a little more sensual on the last disk than I like. I just fast forward through the parts that I didn't care to listen too. The story line it self was interesting and easy to follow.
