This is a play, so it's kind of hard to deal with the stage directions if you are not used to reading them. It's the one that they made a movie about in the 1970s, the movie didn't change the script a great deal. I couldn't help but think that Henry VIII is like a certain recently elected politician. I don't know who is up to playing the part of Thomas More, Newt Gingrich or Paul Ryan, perhaps?

I loved the 60's movie so much, that when I saw this in a bookstore, I wanted to read it and see if I would still be moved. I was!

Merry ole England does have its way dispensing with its meddlesome clergy. Here we have Sir Thomas More under the axe of that outstanding Papist, Henry VIII. Thomas seems to be a poor choice of names for an English clergyman; they dont seem to fair too well there. Oh well, isnt his Utopia thought by neo-pedants to be rather communistic. Sir Thomas was a tad too attached to his ideals to suit God the King.
