Peter May wrote this book in his 20's in 1981 and now has revised it and released it in 2019. I have read all his books and find him to be an excellent writer. This one is about a Scottish reporter, Colin Bannerman, who went to Brussels to write about the Common Market. He stays at Slater's home and gets attached to Slater's autistic daughter. Slater and Robert Gryffe are murdered and Tania Slater is a witness. The murderer is now asked to kill Tania. The police are asked to cover-up the two murders but Bannerman is determined to find out the truth. I liked this plot very much and found the characters to be believable. I am now looking forward to reading May's final book in his Enzo series: The Night Gate.

A solid thriller, noir in tone, well plotted with enough unexpected twists to stay interesting. Set in Brussels in the age before cell phones.
