Kevin Jennings is a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina,a gay man, a leader in K through 12 education, one of the founders of the Gay and Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN), and from July 6, 2009, The Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.
His journey as the youngest of 5 children born to a baptist preacher father, Chester Henry, and to a mother, Alice Verna Jennings, is the subject of Mama's Boy, Preacher's Son.
Kevin Jennings is a quintessential American hero and gay man whose life is one of considerable achievement after being born to modest circumstances.
Kevin Jennings relates his childhood experiences of constant bullying, attempted suicide, and his discovery that he was gay in a clear and emotionally moving manner.
This biography is for anyone who wants to understand a leader in the fields of education, anti-bullying and safe schools, and gay activism.

Mama's Boy, Preacher's Son is a good read. There is not as much diversity between the way this boy was raised (due to a doting mother and strict, fundamentalist father) and anybody else's upbringing.
Well written and holds your interest.
