I loved this book, and follow this author. I could not remember enough to critique it her, but offer this review from Amazon:
"Mama Day is an exquisitely well-written story! Naylor does a stellar job of giving us a "classical novel" with a complex plot which includes doublings and foreshadowings and the folk tale combination. It's a contemporary love story, a timeless generational saga and tale of the supernatural. The storyline spans two worlds."

Very mystical and sad but hopeful!

Very intense and off-beat novel by the author of Linden Hills and Bailey's Cafe about witchcraft and folk remedies in South Carolina.

This is a really fantastic book. It will make you believe in magic. It is contemporary magic realism, in that the world of the book is absolutely the real world and yet, you believe the magic. It's a love story/folk tale that reminds us why we tell folk tales and that fairy tales in their original form are mostly tragic. And yet, you are uplifted.
