I was very disappointed with this book. I was interested in a history of Malinche's part in the Spanish Conquest. Instead, the book is about Lanyon's search for the "essence" of Malinche since historians have few facts about her. The book is a journal of the writer's visits to sites (many that no longer exist) where Malinche lived or visited.
