Cassandra King, wife of author Pat Conroy, is a wonderful writer in her own right. Her novels are so realistic that you feel that the characters are not fiction but real. This is the story of a 20 year old who inherits a home and business. She must also deal with her disabled husband. A terrific read.

Sometimes circumstances render dreams impossible. The survivors are those who can change their dreams to meet the new reality. This book focuses on a young southern woman who becomes a survivor.

Cassandra King provides a wonderful story of small-town America and the people who populate it. Clarkesville just happens to be in Alabama, but it could just as easily be Arkansas, South Carolina or Texas. From the patriach who thinks he runs the family to the former football star with the hairdresser wife, we all know people who behave the way these folks do. Ms. King's got another winner - just as good as The Sunday Wife or Same Sweet Girls.

Making Waves is by Cassandra King. Her books are about unlikely heroes in small town America. Making Waves is told in different voices. It is a sad story of people trying to overcome everything from personal injury to social status. Donnette is the young wife of the ex-football hero who was injured in a car accident with his best friend Taylor. Taylor leaves town after the accident, but returns two years later to help his elderly aunt giving the whole town something to talk about again. While it is not my favorite book by her, it is a good read.

There's more to this book than just a nice portrait of a little beauty parlor in a little southern town. I was pleasantly surprised.
