This is basically a re-hashing of Ted Tripp's "Shepherding A Child's Heart". If you've read Ted's book, you probably won't glean anything new from this book. However if you haven't read his book, this one would be a good simplified equivilent to his.
The information is biblically sound, with scenerios in each chapter to show how to practically apply scripture in different situations. This is very helpful. It isn't all about spanking and teaching a child self-control (although self-control is certainly an important thing to teach your child). Ginger Plowman says the same thing as Ted Tripp, you need to get to the heart issue of the child's behavior and teach your child how to recognize that their wrong/bad behavior is stemming from a heart that wants to sin against God. Only when they can begin to see the wickness in their hearts can they see their need for a Savior and that is our ultimate goal as Christians, right? (I'm summarizing big time here).
I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars because the content doesn't seem to be original. If you can get "Shepherding A Child's Heart" I would recommend it first. This is a good book though and would be my second choice.

This is above and beyond all other books I have read on the topic of parenting! Plowman has done a fantastic job of taking the wisdom from the Bible and applying it to teaching our children's hearts! I will read this one again and again! No more counting to three around here! ( :

Discipline isn't just spanking, it's teaching your kids why their actions are right or wrong, and encouraging them to do the right thing. Very encouraging for moms!

Much of this book draws from Shepherding A Child's Heart by Ted Tripp. However, this book has more practical application than Tripp's book. This book really revolutionized how I look at disciplining my children. When children disobey their parent's, they are disobeying God. As such, it is most important that the relationship be restored.
Many people on Amazon.com have given this book poor reviews due to the fact that the author makes a case for temporal punishment (use of the rod). Whether you agree with this aspect or not, reading this book will help you apply the Gospel to parenting. I think that this book is phenomenal!

Fantastic advice for parents wishing to address heart issues, not just behavioral ones. Unapologetically Christian in it's approach.

"A straightforward, direct, helpful, hopeful and encouraging book. Daily applications to child-rearing from a Biblical perspective." So says one reviewer of this book, and I agree. A great resource!

Very practical. I liked that it was from a Mom's perspective.
