Another good story about mid-19th century librarian Glynis Tryon that takes place early in 1861. This appears to be the last book in the series (published in 1999) in which Miss Tryon has the lead, in the story line. Many of the characters mature, but author Monfredo leaves some personal relationships unresolved.

Monfredo has three more books that showcase Glynis Tryon's nieces and nephews and the activities as spy, nurse and soldier during the American Civil War. These stories shift the scene from western New York to the battlefront in Virginia.
