Cool YA fiction that's a light fantasy read; definitely NOT a copy of the world of Hogwarts. An adult (me for instance) will find some of the plot a bit predictable but even I was surprised at some of the twists...looking very forward to the rest of the series and also to the possible movie (Warner Bros. has the rights).

I am in sixth grade and I realy injoyed this book! the characters go on many adventures to fight against the evil domdaniel using magyk. It is one of the best books I have ever read and I can't wait to read the second book!!! I would recomend geting it if you are in middle school.

This is an easy book to read. There are a lot of characters, and the kids are the featured characters. It is about wizards, like the Harry Potter series, but it's not quite as dark. The author seems to have a vivid imagination, and the story is continually moving.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I can see why it's being called "The next HARRY POTTER." Not only is the story appealing to young adults, it will also weave its MAGYK into the hearts of older adults that have always loved a good Fantasy story. And this does not disappoint.
If you were to combine HARRY POTTER, THE WIZARD OF OZ, and any other story where a young innocent boy comes to power, then you'll have entered a truly MAGYKAL world. If you're looking for a quick escape, this book will provide it for you.
I look forward to reading all the other books in this series, just as soon as I can get my hands on them! LOL

Terrifically entertaining book with charming, memorable characters and exciting adventures throughout. You'll route for the good guys and despise (and occasionally laugh at) the bad guys. There are many nicely balanced scenes where genuine danger and heroic derring-do mesh together very well. A great book to read aloud to younger children. Older children will want to take this book away and race through it breathlessly by themselves. Though not quite as complex as Harry Potter, adults will still greatly enjoy the world and people of Septimus Heap.

A quick, delightful read that can stand on its own, MAGYK is, without a doubt, an intriguing page-turner.
Septimus Heap, the seventh son of a seventh son, died shortly after birth. Born to a family of Wizards, there's no telling what he might have become, as his lineage as a seventh son would have made him unbelievably magical. But on that winter night when Septimus died, his father, Silas, found another newborn child in the forest. They named her Jenna, and she grew up thinking that she was the daughter of Silas and Sarah Heap, and the sister of six older brothers--Simon, Sam, Edd, Erik, Nicko, and Jo-Jo. Early on, though, Sarah had her own ideas of who Jenna really was, especially when she heard the news that the Queen had been murdered. Jenna Heap was, undoubtedly, the Princess.
Over the next ten years, darkness came to the Castle and the Ramblings, where the Heaps lived. With no Queen, evil came in the form of the Supreme Custodian, who along with his cohorts banned magic and ended the happiness the Queen's people had once known. This is the first book that I've read on my Kindle and I really enjoyed it. Comparable to the Harry Potter series and very entertaining. I look forward to reading the rest of the series in due time.
Not what i was expecting , but good read
This book reminded me a whole lot of [book:Inkheart|28194] which I also only slightly liked. This series is for the very young reader. If you are a young reader, you would probably enjoy this rambling adventure tale involving all kinds of talking critters, magic, wizards and kids. As an adult, I must say that it was an adventure going nowhere. Sure Princess Jenna, Nicko and Boy 412 got in many pickles and found their way out without injury but I just couldn't see the point to the story. The series is supposed to be about Septimus Heap, yet he didn't feature in this book until the very end. This book was totally about saving the princess from the evil wizard who has killed the Queen and taken over the Wizard Tower. As I said, an ok story but definitely for the youngsters.
This WHOLE series is terrific! I loved it (even if it is meant for kids).

I thought that this story was a bit on the unoriginal side, with the "misplace heir" plot and all. The characters were also a bit over-dramatic at times. The bad guys were really bad and the good guys overly naive. It was like having caricatures done in words instead of images. It was also annoying to see adults, who should know better, act no better than children in their impulsiveness which tended to result with bad endings.
I can't even compare this to something as enjoyable as the Harry Potter books and am not sure a fan of those would necessarily enjoy these. I didn't find them anywhere near as good and I love the HP series. The only real similarities is that there is magic and a bad wizard with his own followers.
