This is a really rousing and good historical romance. Set wonderfully in the highlands of Scotland. My personal favorite place for a romance novel. The hero is fantastic and the heroine is smart and funny. First rate.
Very nice story.
When Princess Kathryn Kentyre is snatched from a life of captivity by the mysterious Black Robert of Craighdhu, she is torn between absolute terror and soaring hope. He had been chosen to protect her from teh dangers surrounding her, yet the moment he swept her away she knew this rogue of a Scottish larid would prove a greater threat than any she faced from her enemies.
Sensuous as sin itself and wild as his native Scottish Highlands, Robert MacDarren had no intention of settling down with one woman. Yet the agreement he'd struck to keep the peace required he marry the orphaned beauty and bring her back to his castle at Craigdhu for safekeeping. It was to be a marriage in name only - and only for one year. He never suspecited tha the meek hostage he had been promised would prove to be this firebrand of a woman who would challenge his mind, arouse his passion, and lay siege to his heart.

From the glittering courts of Elizabethan England to the storm tossed cliffs of the Scottich Highlands come a tale of seduction, danger and desire. Very good book
Johansen as she was many years ago, when she first started writing. A delightful, romantic story of Elizabethan times.
From the glittering courts of Elizabethan England to the storm-tossed cliffs of the Scottish Highlands comes a dazzling tale of seduction, danger, and desire by one of America's bestselling and beloved authors.
I thought this was a good story, interesting twist to stories I have heard from history class.
Robert, Scottish laird is to rescue his future wife. He thinks he will marry her in name only. Little does he know what awaits him.
This is only my second book by Johansen. The political aspect was a bit harder to follow but I think this one was very touching. The only other book I read by her was "Lion's Bride" and there are many similar characters. Gavin provided the light-hearted humor while Kate was the smart, resourceful heroine and Robert the serious but sexy leader. Robert was a bit more fun, especially when verablly sparring with Queen Elizabeth.
It was intriguing and a fun read with a little bit of sadness thrown in.
