I LOVE post-apocolyptic / magic / fantasy books. Some I've read are better than others, but I love this one! In fact, this is my third time around. This is a really good one if you like this style of story.
Short bio:
The power is not only gone, certain people are gaining magical powers; some had their bodies changed as well. You find as you go that the powers and changes in body match what the personalities of the people who are changed were like. So if you were an "ogre" in your normal life, mean to everyone, hateful, etc. then odds are you'll get changed into a REAL monster of some kind. If you were especially nice, tried to do the right thing, etc., you may get changed into something nice. Some people don't get changed at all, or very little.
A small group of people decide to leave the city while the going's still good. They head for where the pulse came from because one of them is sick and going through a change. They're hoping to find out what caused all the trouble and find a cure. While this is happening, the rest of the world of course is falling apart. Food is running out, people are fighting, there's no government, violence is escalating, etc. And whatever caused this to happen, isn't done with the world yet. There's more to the "change" than I'm giving away here, or that you could suspect!
The story stays active, the changes are fun and stay true to the beginning of the story, and there aren't any really slow, boring parts, though the first book is really a set up for the last two parts of the story.
If you're lucky enough to get this book, ENJOY!!

The first book of Zicree's Magic Time trilogy sets the stage for main story and introduces the reader to the characters. While an enjoyable read on its own, this volume is primarily a preliminary to the next two. I like the concept of a secret government project gone wrong and the sweeping changes that occur as a result. It is interesting that Zicree collaborates with a different author in each book of the trilogy and the stylistic differences make for enjoyable reading. Recommended.
