Lately, I've been enjoying listening to old radio shows that generally were comedies. This one is different because these radio shows are generally dramas, with a couple of comedies thrown in for variety. The interesting thing is that A-List actors and actresses are doing the performances. Some of the names include Pat O'Brien, Alan Ladd, Al Jolson, Charles Laughton, Ida Lupino, Edgar G. Robinson, Robert Young, Elizabeth Taylor, and Mickey Rooney.
Some of the dramas have held up well, some haven't. This particular volume was produced between 1945 and 1947. The commercials even have a war-time theme and/or mentioned saving oil (they were reminding wives to save every scrap of used cooking oil for the war effort). They even told women how the used fats and oils would be used by the war effort and in products that people would purchase. Thus, recycling was used during World War II. Who knew?
In the musical drama, SUWANNEE RIVER, I didn't realize what a beautiful voice Dennis Morgan had until I listened to him sing the songs of Stephen Foster. Al Jolson, in the same drama, was no slouch himself.
During the time I was listening to these dramas, I was doing something that was tedious and long-lasting. These performances certainly took the tedium out of the work.
I'd like to comment on the other rater's evaluation. Remastered works often offer a clear, crisp sound, without the static often on out-of-domain works.
