Lula Dean has made it her mission to rid the school library of "inappropriate books". She has succeeded in getting several books pulled from the library. To help the public with their reading, Lula has set up her own small library in front of her house. This library includes books that Lula feels are appropriate for the "God-Fearing people" in her town. Unknown to Lula, a young woman stops at her library one night and replaces Lula's books with the books on the banned list, replacing the dust jackets on them so no one realizes what has happened. As the townspeople borrow books from Lula's little library, it changes lives.

Wow! A friend of mine told me about this book, so I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. The story is funny and inspiring, with some serious moments sprinkled in. Some of the topics in this book include book-banning, racism, hate, fear mongering, homophobia, misogyny, censorship, and fake news. It shows a woman who wants to control what people read, leaving the town stagnant and unable to move forward from the past.

"When you have everything, the only luxury left is taking things away from others."

I was thoroughly entertained by this book. I listened to the audiobook narrated by January LaVoy. Her narration was outstanding. I had a hard time shutting off the book long enough to get some sleep. I highly recommend this book. My rating: 5 Stars.
