Time is rapidly eroding the luster of the bright ideas he discussed. Published in 1995 its generous Index and commendable Bibliography depend on a wide array of secondary sources. In our high decibel world,Bloom skillfully captures ever-shortening attention spans of today's culture. It's a keeper to browse for the tantalizing chapter headings and the generous white space between sub headings. He covers a wide range of scientific and historical subjects with rare literary skill and makes them accessible to all thoughtful readers.

Maybe the most important book I have ever read. It elucidates the why for much of our behaviour. Full of historical examples and behavioral studies to exemplify the hypothesis, I found it hard to put down.

My copy does not have the 9/11 additions; it was published in 1995.
