This is the second of Brokaw's books that I have read, having started with The Atlantis Code. Already I'm finding him boringly predictable. He has only one plot: The protagonist, a linguist professor, has to find and translate an ancient artifact in order to save the world. Along the way he is hunted down by a variety of good guys and bad guys, who of course, also want the artifact. And he is accompanied in his search by two women who fight over him. One of the women is a tough gunslinger, and the other a colleague.
The book drags along. He could have accomplished his task in half the pages. Okay, I'm ready for a different author.

A fast-moving, engaging story with interesting historical background and surprising twists and turns. The descriptions are a bit graphic in places, but the story kept me reading.
