Lover Avenged is a worthy addition to the BDB collection. It's a longer, deeper story than any of the others, with plenty of time dedicated to sexy Rehvenge as well subplots on Wrath, John, and eeevil Lash. I don't want to give any of the plot away - you deserve the pleasure of discovering Rehv's amethyst eyes for yourself. Just know that Rehv is awesome, he has to deal with way too much crap (yeah, I got teary once or twice), but fortunately he doesn't have to deal with it all alone... which means we also get a much-needed hot Brotherhood fix to boot.

Ward has outdone herself with "Lover Avenged." The first six novels in this series revolve around rather simplistic plots: Zsadist's story is simply his own, as is Rhage's, etc. This novel tells the story of Rehvenge BUT there's so much more. If you've been wondering what's going on with Wrath and his queen, question answered! Wanted more about John Matthew? That's there too. Wondering how Doc Jane is? Read on!
Additionally, she manages to present the characters of Xhex and Rehvenge honestly (showing all their flaws), but still in a way that just warmed my heart. You'll be a Rehv fan when you're done, I promise!

I liked Lover Avenged, but there was something about the book that didn't quite work for me. There seemed to be a shift somewhere; it didn't read like a Black Dagger Brotherhood book, IMO. Maybe it's because the book was about Rehvenge and he's not a brother. Also, this is the first time that I became annoyed with the lessers. They are an integral piece to the on-going war, but it was just about the leader finding ways to make money and it was boring to read about. Besides what's going on with Wrath, the storyline did not move forward in this book. The whole war issue with the lessers was at a stand-still and I wished there was some type of progression with it.
With my complaints aside, I loved Rehvenge and Ehlena. I liked how gentle he was with her and there was true emotion when they were together. I thought the revelation of who, and what, Rehvenge was handled beautifully. Ehlena's feelings and reactions were spot on and I admired how she was able to forgive him.
I felt so bad for JM in this book. He got kicked around too much, but I hated how he decided to handle everything. He's never had much guidance, and the one person he looks up to, was not around when he needed it. I am looking forward to his book, which I believe is next. I love this series!!!! I never know what's going to happen in J.R. Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood series, except to say that she's never let me down when it comes to a page turner. Well worth the money I spent on this book and one I can read over and over again when I find myself in a reading rut. Just wish I didn't have to wait so long for the next one, then again, Ward makes it worth the wait. A 5 star read.

A little slow to get into at first but it gets better. I liked how sweet the relationship between Ehlena and Revhenge is. Ward did a really good job progressing their relationship with phone calls.

Continues the saga of the Black Dagger Brotherhood with the story of Rhevenge and Ehlena. Not a horrible book, but not nearly as good as the first few books in the series. Definitely not worth the cost of a new hardcover, so get it used or at your library.
There were lots of subplots going on in this one. It set the stage for the next book (John and Xhex). There was a fair amount about Wrath. The rest of the brothers were in the book but only superficially.
If you like the series, I think it's a "must read" because the books build on each other and you would have information gaps otherwise.

I am a huge fan of J.R. Ward and love the Brotherhood series so I got this latest as soon as it was out in paperback. I was so looking forward to Rehv's story.
That being said this book is entirely too long and disjointed. LOVED IT! Lover Avenged has turned out much better than the last two books of Ward's series. I have to admit I was disappointed in the last two installments. This one has drawn me back into the Black Dagger Brotherhood!

I have to agree with another reviewer that there were alot of subplots going on in this book and made it a little difficult for me to get into, but as with the rest of the books in the series I did enjoy it alot.

Loads of strong character development and movement of the series plotline. Rehv is a multifaceted character and his damage runs deep. I was not prepared to find him as interesting, but he and his love interest really "brought it." Beth and Wrath, the original and royal couple, also have a large part in this book. It's all good, less sensual than others - but this woman can write and I'm ready for more! 4.5 stars - read it!

Yet again a stunning book by J.R. Ward. I love each and every character. I don't want each story to end. Each one of the men are so fierce yet fragile. I love the connection they make with their mates. A must read in the series. Rhev dominated. The lengths that he goes to to protect those he loves....

Loved the addition to the series~! Story of Ehlena and "Rev", has great subplots on John and Xhex as well updates us on what is going one with Lash and Wrath. A must have for the series. I bought this in April but kept putting it off and now I can't wait for John's story. Its 550 pages and nothing is fluff, totally worth the Hardcover price.

Rehvenge has never been one of my favorite characters in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, so I was surprised that I liked this book so much. Rehv is dealing with a plot to kill Wrath, the on-going blackmail from the Symphath princess with the possibility of his symphath identity being revealed, and his love for Ehlena, a nurse at Havers' clinic. We learn a lot about Rehv and what makes him tick. The romance between him and Ehlena and the revelation that he is a Symphath is well-written and interesting.
Other stories are advanced, including Wrath & Beth, Tohr, and Xhex & John Matthew. This is a 5 Star book for me. I'm ready to read the next book in the series, but it looks like I'll have to wait a whole year.

The seventh installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood is about Rehvenge, the half-symphath owner of ZeroSum and brother of Bella, Zsadists wife.
Rehvenge has been successful in hiding his symphath side through the use of drugs and because he pays a monthly blackmail fee in rubies and his body to his half-sister so she will keep her silence. These monthly meetings are nearly deadly for him.
He meets Ehlena at the hospital where she works as a nurse. Ehlenas life has become extremely difficult. Her mother has died, her father is suffering from dementia and the family has lost its wealth and standing with the glymera. She and her father live in a small, run-down apartment. Part of her salary pays for a day nurse to stay with her father.
Rehvenge is attracted to Ehlena and Ehlena reluctantly agrees to a dinner with him. She eventually loses her job at the hospital because she steals some drugs (antibiotics) to help Rehv because he did not mention an infection to Havers that she had noticed when she was taking his vital information.
John Matthew continues to be obsessed with Xhex but then he accidentally learns that she is a symphath and is initially torn as to whether or not he should turn her in.
Wrath has gone back to fighting lessers but he is doing it on his own and coercing Butch to help him with clean up. Beth eventually learns that he is fighting on his own and is furious with him.
The Lessening Society has actually become interesting in this book. Lash is leading the society with Mr D as his right hand man. They are in the process of recruiting new lessers and Lash has the idea that he will take over the drug trade that Rehvenge has been doing at his night club. In doing so, they start to recruit the local drug dealers. One of whom is on the outs with Rehvenge and Xhex because he has killed his former girlfriend, Christina, who was an employee at ZeroSum. (A bit of a treat in this part of the story is that Detective de la Cruz is brought back because he is investigating the death of Christina and has told Xhex to let the law handle the investigation.)
And, Tohrment is fighting with the angel, Lassiter, who has moved in with the Brothers at their compound.
This is my least favorite book in the series. Mostly, because I just dont particularly care for Rehvenge. In the previous stories, he seems to be this bad guy who knows too much so he gets away with things. (Such as not being turned in as a symphath because hes Phurys drug dealer.) I didnt like how he treated his sister Bella like an incompetent twit in Lover Revealed (book 2) and Lover Awakened (book3) and the subsequent books. Its never really fully explained why the Brotherhood tolerates allowing him to stay among them, despite knowing he is a symphath. Does the Brotherhood disagree with the rule about sending symphaths to the colony?
I did like the side stories in this book. Wraths struggle with his blindness and why he didnt tell Beth he was actively fighting lessers. Tohrments struggle with being saved from death by Lassiter and how his desire to be in the Fade with Wellsie blinded him to what he needed to do. (Plus, Lassiter is funny.)
There was a lot of hiding in this book and the hiding ultimately didnt help the people who were doing the hiding.
The sex was hidden in this book, too.

I have some mixed reviews with this book. It was very well written and I really enjoyed the subplots but the main story I thought was lacking. Still, better than Phury's story. I guess what really bothered me was the awkwardness of the love scenes. It seems like Ward likes to make her heroes insecure about sex. That's a bit of a turn off for me. Plus that whole barbed penis thing was weird.

No disappointment with this series yet! The seventh book in the series was more interesting than I thought it would be. Loved the story of Rehvenge and Ehlena. I was also very pleased that Wrath was a main character in this story too. Loved the set up for John and Xhex's Story and I can't wait to read about Payne! Great book overall though I will admit that the first half of Lash and the lessers story was boring IMO.

To be honest, I was a bit scared to read this book. I am in love with the brothers and didn't understand why Ward wanted to write about Rehvenge since he was not one...but OMG what a story! I was so deeply in love with him by the end of the story, I didn't care what group he was a part of...a bit scare of the "barb" but that turned out ok too.

J.R. Ward has once again drawn the reader/fan into the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, this time focusing on the dark, dangerous and oh so sexy Rehvenge. I found this story to be the most enticing so far in the series, although I greatly love each and every one of the books written by the talented Ms. Ward. I think what drew me to Rehvenge from the first time we meet him in Wrath's story is the dark mystery surrounding him and his people. I really liked the interaction between Rhev and Ehlena. Hot, hot and more hot! As a reader of nearly 50 years, in many genres, I can say that Ms. Ward is one of the more truly gifted. "Lover Avenged" was at moments touching, sad, pulse-poundingly sensual and drop dead dangerous....and the cliffhanger ending will cause diehard fans to groan and salivate for the next installment of the BDB clan. I look forward to learning how the relationship between John Matthew and Xhex develops....will Lash get the beatdown he so richly deserves...I hope they knock him into the darkside with no exit...and then...oh yes...the seriously offbeat Lassiter....hmmmmm....I find myself intrigued by this fallen one. And what is going on with the Scribe Virgin and Payne....well...like it or not..we will just have to bide our time and wait for the next fabulous book from J R Ward.....kudos to a major talent! I remain a hardcore fan!

Lover Avenged is the 7th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. With each book the series just gets better. JR Ward had out done herself yet again with writing this fantastic novel. In this book there are multiple plots that seem to be going on but yet all tie into one another at the end. This book keeps you turning page after page after page and in my opinion a terrific read!!
In this book the main premise is Rehvenge and his love interest the nurse Ehelena. Rehvenge being part sympath and part vampire can feel other peoples emotions. Since part sympath he his forced to hide that side of him from the vampire world in which only a select few truly know what he is. To hide this side of him he must take dopamine so that he does not feel what anyone else feels. He thinks of himself as pretty much garbage and therefore does not take care of himself.
Enter Nurse Ehelena. A strong indepenent woman who has beenf orced to take care of her ill father and never truly living life for herself. Afterall taking care of a mentally ill parent is a tremendous time consuming task. Ehelena meets Rhevenge when he comes to the clinic for his visit to get dopamine. Of coarse everyone fears Rhevenge but yet Ehelena seems to be drawn to him and does not know why.
Through the coarse of the book we see their relationship develope. Ehelena opening up to Rhevenge and yet Rhevenge doing all he can to keep his dark deeds to himself. Afterall if Ehelena were to find out what he truly is and what he does there would be no way a woman of worth would truly be able to love him, right? Rhevenge is forced to face his demons and fears. Can he overcome them and be the mane Ehelena beleives him to be. Can Ehelena come to grips with his past and see the man he truly is so they can have a furture together. Only reading this book will you find the answer :-) No spoilers here
We also find Wrath and Beth dealing with dilemmas of their own. With Wraths diminishing vision and the fact the he lied to Beth really puts a damper in their relationship. Wrath is the kind of of male that does not want to feel useless and yet not being able to fight with his brothers makes him feel useless. Only through his is blindness can he truly lead. I know pretty weird but you will see what I'm talking about when you read the book. Can he truly overcome his feeling of failure to realize what he has to do and move on from his disability? Once again you must READ the book.
Finally we have the Xhex and John situation. Which is still an ever growing situation in each book. I am looking forward to reading Lover Mine as that is their book. So I can not say anything about their situation in this book without giving away spoiler. So more to come on that front when I read Lover Mine.

Of coarse everyone fears Rhevenge but yet Ehelena seems to be drawn to him and does not know why.
Through the coarse of the book we see their relationship develope. Ehelena opening up to Rhevenge and yet Rhevenge doing all he can to keep his dark deeds to himself. Afterall if Ehelena were to find out what he truly is and what he does there would be no way a woman of worth would truly be able to love him, right? Rhevenge is forced to face his demons and fears. Can he overcome them and be the mane Ehelena beleives him to be. Can Ehelena come to grips with his past and see the man he truly is so they can have a furture together. Only reading this book will you find the answer :-) No spoilers here
We also find Wrath and Beth dealing with dilemmas of their own. With Wraths diminishing vision and the fact the he lied to Beth really puts a damper in their relationship. Wrath is the kind of of male that does not want to feel useless and yet not being able to fight with his brothers makes him feel useless. Only through his is blindness can he truly lead. I know pretty weird but you will see what I'm talking about when you read the book. Can he truly overcome his feeling of failure to realize what he has to do and move on from his disability? Once again you must READ the book.
Finally we have the Xhex and John situation. Which is still an ever growing situation in each book. I am looking forward to reading Lover Mine as that is their book. So I can not say anything about their situation in this book without giving away spoiler. So more to come on that front when I read Lover Mine.
The book as usual is filled with action, drama, romance, and of coarse steamy love scenes. If you have not read this series you must put it on your list. It's a series you won't be disappointed with. Everything you could want in this kind of genre!!! Thanks JR Ward for writing yet another wonderful novel that had me turing pages into the late hours of the night.

I really enjoyed this one! It's been about a year since I read through the earlier books, but it seems that this one had a more varied plot-line. I liked that it brought in several storylines vs. only focusing on the brother/love interest and the lessors. This one seemed more balanced to me. I enjoyed learning more about Rhev, and like others have said, I wasn't too into him from his prior appearances. It's hard not to care for him here. His storyline brings in Xhex, iAm, Trez, and then intersects with John Matthews, Quinn and Blay. The Wrath/Beth portion was very endearning, especially when George is brought it. I loved it!
I've already begun Lover Mine, and am enjoying it just as much. I hope she keeps up this style for however many books are left. I'll be interested to see what stories are left.
If you're a BDB fan, you can't miss this one. Hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I did!

I wasn't sure how much I would like this story in the BDB series because I've not been a huge fan of Rehvenge in the other books, however, I was immediately hooked and I loved every bit of it. I love this series and this story was another great one.

Just like every other BDB follower, I didn't particularly like Rehvenge in earlier books. He's a drug dealer, a pimp and supposedly an all-around bad guy. But once you get into his life, you realize where he came from and why he is doing what he does to survive - and all it is is survival not living.
I especially liked the pairing with Ehlena. She's the exact opposite of him in all ways except her exile which puts them squarely in the same boat. Rehv is the typical tortured hero who uses his self-deprecating ways to protect himself and preserve his pride.
Lash is a complete asshole and I can't wait to see John Matthew kick his ass in Lover Mine.

After Lover Enshrined (which I hated btw), I was not even looking forward to this one. Phury's story was a huge waste of money, I had no intention of paying the price for this one in hard cover. I read my daughter's copy instead.

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it!! Another great book from J.R. Ward! The writing is amazing. I felt the previous book in the series (Lover Enshrined) was awful, but in Lover Avenged, Ward creates a much meatier storyline and she returns to the paranormal romance she's known for. This is sexy, romantic, witty, fun, intriguing...all the things missing from the previous book. The humor is back. There are some very funny interactions between Lassiter and the Brothers.

This book started off a little slow and boring for me at first, but by the time I got to the last page I was wanting more and can't wait for the next book. I love that you see who Rhev truly is underneath all the "bad ass". This is still by far my most favorite series.

What a relief to read Lover Avenged. Having been disappointed by the last two books, this one was right back to awesome. Having met Rehv in earlier books and known some of his story this was a great way to redeem him and move the story along. Really liked Ehlena...thought she was on par with Beth and Bella! Great plot line involving Wrath and the brothers too! Hope that Ward is back on track...this book gives me hope! Excellent!

WOW! Ms Ward just cemented herself as my new favorite paranormal author! This is THE BEST BDB book yet! It tells of Rhevenge and the reasons behind many of his decisions. He has to choose between doing the right thing, even when it will likely cause his death or following his sympath ways. Many of our old friends are in this book and each has a strong role in the book: Wrath/Beth, John Michael/Xhex and Rhevenge/Ehlena. We also catch up with Lash and Tohr.
The downside... the language is EVEN more street and I had to hide it from my kids and the romance kind of takes second stage. Some felt that the story didn't focus on Rhevenge enough but I think he was presented through his developing relationships with the other characters... that in itself is pivotal for him.
That said, it was my favorite BDB novel! It is NON STOP action, adventure and romance, and I wasnt' too disappointed that there was less romance. The pace made up for it! Loved it! Can't wait for the next one!
The downside... the language is EVEN more street and I had to hide it from my kids and the romance kind of takes second stage. Some felt that the story didn't focus on Rhevenge enough but I think he was presented through his developing relationships with the other characters... that in itself is pivotal for him.

Lover Avenged is a great addition to the Ward series!! Those following the story line gets updates on many of the characters they have grown to read and love. Wrath/Beth/Blindness sub-plot, the setting up of Lash/Xhex/John Matthew trio for Lover Mine. Most importantly Rhev abd Ehlena's story. I thought it was fantastic actually moving me to tears a few times during my read. I thought Ward takes a unsympathetic gangster and transforms him into a like-able character. Ehlena is just fantastic and their story is beautiful!

I have loved this series with the exception of Lover Enshrined and now this latest Lover Avenged...I say the latest because we are left with some definite unfinished business at the end. I was so looking forward to this book because Rehv was a character I liked a lot but I thought he was less masculine than he should have been.
This story just didnt flow for me like the others, I found myself skimming pages which I never do with Ward.
The first in the series is still my all time fav and one that I will never trade. Wrath is great!
Anyhow I will continue to buy the series as well as the new series coming out.

No disappointment with this series yet! The seventh book in the series was more interesting than I thought it would be. Loved the story of Rehvenge and Ehlena. I was also very pleased that Wrath a main character in this story too. Loved the set up for John and Xhex's Story and I can't wait to read about Payne! Great book overall though I will admit that the first half of Lash and the lessers story was boring IMO.

Lover Avenged really changed my stance on Rehv, until this point I enjoyed his character but I had never considered him as one of my favorites... now I take cooking tips from the guy. (Try making his roast, and see if it isn't the best thing ever) I never thought I would cry over the purple Mohawk wearing gangster, but there was more then a few times this book had me reaching for a Kleenex. So my hat goes off the the Warden on this one because this is the only time my initial opinion of one of her characters has changed.
Then there is the John/Xhex side story, the John/Tohr side story and one gorgeous angel all of which are reason enough to come back another slice.

It was not a bad book but I thought it could have been better. I thought there were too many irrelevant parts to it about Lash the son of the Omega. That's just my opinion. I had to skip those parts because it just seems like Lash and the Omega along with the lessers are villians that will never die and just keep making appearances in the books. Kill Lash or the Omega and bring on a different villian.
Rehv sounds like a dreamy character and I did think Ehlena was a good fit for him. I did like their story.

Absoluetly Awesome. More outstanding work from JR. This book moves the Lesser/Lash story along as well as the BRothers. In this book the battle betten good and evil is becoming personal. In addition to the Lesser/Brother battle, the fight for control over the vampire and sympath races begin to join forces.
Wonderful love story for Rehv and the coming of age for John Matthew. I love, love, love this book. JR does a phenomenal job of continuing mutliple story lines in one book while giving us a fabulous main story with a HEA for Rehv.

OMG-these books just get better and better and better! This one features Rehvenge and finally gives us his complete history. It's much, much darker than the previous books but just as great. And as usual, the end of this one sets us up for the next one. I am so in love with all these characters! I don't want this series to ever end!

A LOT going on in this installment of the BDB series. While JR Ward creates a fairly likable personality in Rehvenge (the Rev), as a character he is pretty icky. I like that both he and Ehlena have to work through the fact that he is a violent drug addict, pimp, drug dealing bookie and whore. That's a whole lotta negative to overcome. I think Ward writes a compelling story and convinces us that he is worth redemption.

When Ward started the Black Dagger books, I couldn't wait to get the next one when it was released. They were some of the BEST books I've ever read. Awesome! However, the last two books (Phury & this one, Revhenge) are not as good. She is spending too much time on all the other characters rather than the couple the book is about. This one was mostly about Wrath and his blindness. There were very few times that Ehlena & Revhenge were even together in the book. Disappointing. I really hope she did better with John Matthews book!!!!!
Oh, Baby...these books are en fuego! I really cannot put J.R. Ward's brotherhood down and then am stricken that it's over. I am eagerly awaiting her next installment in this sexy, suspenseful series.

This was such a good book. Especially good because the last two were a little all over the place and this one felt like it was as good as the first four.

Loads of strong character development and movement of the series plotline. Rehv is a multifaceted character and his damage runs deep. I was not prepared to find him as interesting, but he and his love interest really "brought it." Beth and Wrath, the original and royal couple, also have a large part in this book. It's all good, less sensual than others - but this woman can write and I'm ready for more! 4.5 stars - read it!
This book is part of a series that is a nice mix of romance and the supernatural. Rehv is not actually a member of the Brotherhood though. He has so many problems. I love the whole series but Rehv's book is my fourth favorite book. The whole series is good.

I loved this book. I thought that it was well written and enjoyed having the series turn into something more than a romance novel. My favorite books were Zadist and Butch but this one ranks right up there. It was interesting to get a behind the scenes look at the "bad boy" Rhev and what made him who he is.
The downside to the book was, to me, it got a little far fetched in at the sympath's colony. Also, I was sad to see the landmark disappear...sorry no spoilers here.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It included the rest of the gang and reads in chronological order showing others as well as the h/h. I also would like to see a little more of Payne!

I enjoyed Rehv and Ehlena's story. I enjoyed the other story continuations of the multiple other members of the BDB. John and Xhex and Wrath and Beth factor heavily in this book. Like all the other BDB books before this, there is plenty of Brand Name dropping, slang, and the super fun spelling of names.

One of my favorites of all the Black Dagger books.
Rating: C+ Lover Revenged is book seven in J. R. Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. For a brief synopsis of this series and a reading order, check out my series post on the Brotherhood. The Reverend or Rhevenge runs the night club Zero Sum in Caldwell. He is half vampire-half sympath. He injects himself with dopamine to suppress the sympath side of himself - his murderous, raging, mind-controlling self. He frequently needs to go to the clinic for a steady supply of dopamine. Most of the nurses are afraid of him, except for Ehlena. Rhev is drawn to Ehlena because of how pure and innocent she seems, which is so different from the tainted life Rhev lives. I just finished Lover Revenged last night. I have to be honest here... I couldn't really get into it. I think it was Rhev. I sometimes struggle with books where the characters are less than human, ie they have demon in them or in this case sympath (and sympaths totally creep me out by-the-way). I mean he was a pimp, a drug dealer, a murderer and to top it off a half-psychopathic lizard creature. One of those things I could have handled, maybe two. But all of them together was too much of a stretch for me. Plus, for some reason with the mohawk, the big coat, fancy designer suit and cane, I kept picturing him as the rapper Flavor Flav with the over-sized gold watch around his neck and gold caps on his teeth. Okay, so because of Rhev I had a big disconnect, but I will say that I still thought the romance between Ehlena and Rhev, was good. I especially liked the scenes with them talking over the phone. The scene where they are intimate the first time is a great one too. I just wish I would have liked Rhev more. Onto the John Matthew saga... Well, I have always liked John Matthew and his buddies. I don't really get his interest in Xhex though. I think JR wanted to make John seem more edgy, so she created this angst with Xhex to achieve it. I am not sure how I feel about it yet. She definitely hooked me with the unresolved ending surrounding these two. Lash was also featured and I don't know why, but I like him. I mean, I don't like him per say, but I like what he brings to the stories. He is completely sick and twisted, but dare I say it, he entertains me. I don't know why, but I was amused by his relationship with the Princess. It seemed fitting with their similar personalities. Wrath and Beth (first book, Dark Lover) play a prominent role in the plot of Lover Revenged. Wrath and Beth are having trouble with thier relationship and they have some things they need to work through. I thought it was good to revisit with these two and see how their relationship has progressed.

this is a great series w/the characters interacting in all the books of the series! Lots of action!!!
