Fun read! A good looking boat Captain (decendent of pirates), a woman who can't cook and a angry ghost. What combination could be better?

A romantic tale about a handsome ship's captain, a wench from Jersey City,a one hundred year old schooner, and a town full of shoemakers. There's some getting naked, some blueberry pie, more getting naked, and at the end....

Good, humorous, easy reading as with Janet Evanovich's usual style.

I just love Janet. If you haven't read her books, you should definitely try them. Stephanie is just too cute and fun and Ivan is a great guy. Good, funny book. Quick read.

Love the humor. Evanovich is one of my favorites!

Cute but I didn't enjoy it as much as her other romances. It took a long time to like Stephanie, the bungling idiot. Though I did immediately like Ivan. All of a sudden the house that Ivan sold Stephanie was falling apart and had ghosts. I knew something was up but I surely didn't figure it out. The surprise was kind of far-fetched but humorous anyway.

Of course I loved this one. Could not stop laughing, the poor heroine in this has about as much luck as I do. lol.

The last book I read by Evanovich was WIFE FOR HIRE. This book is so much better; LOVE OVERBOARD does not have the serious flaw of WFH love builds up over time. The odd thing is that LO was written before WFH.
The play on the male leads name was amusing; Ivan the Terrible was terribly handsome, etc. The female lead, Stephanie Lowe, bought Ivans grand old house some months before. And thats when all the trouble started!
Stephanie now knew the house for what it was: the house from hell.
However, thats not her problem today today she needs to fill the role of chef on Ivans ship (during the summer, Ivan takes tourists out on cruises of 1 week duration). The usual cook and Stephanie's cousin, Lucy, is getting married to a plumber.
Now, Stephanie is desperate for a plumber but cant afford one. Lucy promises, if Stephanie will sub as the chef for a week, she will get her husband to fix the plumbing in the house from hell.
Stephs idea of cuisine is a microwave; shes shocked when she finds out that meals are cooked on a wood stove. Learning how to use a wood stove leads to some entertaining meals!
Both of the leads have interesting back stories. Evanovich takes her time telling their stories in small doses. This is brilliant because the reader wants to know what makes each character act as he/she does. It certainly builds suspense.
There are ghosts and a dead body in this story and you wouldnt believe me as to the reason, even if I told you! Theres a bit of a mystery about the floating body and the ghost haunting Stephanies house.
This is a quick read because you are immediately interested in this pair and their zany side-kicks. Humor abounds but this is a story with heart! Enjoy!

great book, funny, a don't miss
I just Love Janet Evanovich's books. This one is really funny and cute!
She's a wary wench. He's a handsome ship's captain. Put the togethrt on a romantic vintage schooner and watch as they sail into a storm of adventure and passion in this fun tale with a really happy ending. Contempary
very cute and funny!!!
Cute. A glimpse of Evanovich before Stephanie Plum.
A romantic tale about a handsome ship's captain; a wary wench from Jersey City; a hundred year old two-masted schooner; and an entire town of shoemakers. It's funny, it's fast paced and it's done in true Evanovich style.
Early Evanovich. Really cute funny book.
Fluffy, but cute and predictable.
A cute read by Evanovich. Her earlier books are a delight, and you can see the development of the characters that ended up in her Stephanie Plum series. A fun, light read.
This is a tale about a handsome ship's captain; a wary wench from Jersey City; a hundered year old two-masted schooner and an entire town of shoemakers.
Stephanie Lowe helps out(?) her cousin in Camden Maine.

There's some getting naked, some blueberry pie, more getting naked, and at the end...Okay, I won't tell you about the end, but it's really good and it'll make you feel happy.
Good, light-hearted, and fun.

Funny, Entertaining,must read!!
quick, predictable, easy read
This is a romance/mystery. Not one of Janet Evanovich's best. It was originally published as 'Ivan Takes a Wife'.
Good romance read.
Laugh out loud crazy book! Loved it!!
Typical J.E. story. Quick, easy read, however. Read it in one sitting.
In the world before Stephanie Plum, Janet Evanovich wrote romances - fluffy, silly - almost zany - romances like Love Overboard. Because of the popularity of the Plum books, most of these romances have been republished with new covers and sometimes new titles (this book was originally titled Ivan Takes a Wife).
It's a fun read, but the style reads almost like she is practicing for the Plum novels. Heck, the heroine's name is Stephanie (same as the Plum books). And although the majority of the book is set in Maine, the heroine's family is in New Jersey and she went to her parents' house for dinner every Sunday for most of her adult life. Sound familiar to anyone?
I've read several of the pre-Plum romances now. And as long as you don't expect too much of them, these books are great for a few hours of entertainment.

Good, quick read. Entertaining as only Evanovich can be!
Stephanie Lowe decides Maine schooner captain and pirate descendent Ivan Rasmussen deserves to be called Ivan the Terrible. The house she just bought from him is falling apart and possibly haunted. He complains about her fish-eye stew and burnt chocolate chip cookies. He makes fun of her hair after she's had to comb it while using a toaster as a mirror. And on top of all that, he has the nerve to be charming, handsome and overboard in love with her. This is one pirate captain who is determined to acquire the treasure of a lifetime.
I was not overly impressed with this book.
This book was originally published in 1989 under Loveswept as: IVAN TAKES A WIFE.
I've read her complete Stephanie Plum series (loved them) and 2 Alex Barnaby books (liked them also) but this was the first "romance" book of hers that I've read. I'm not much for romance books so was skeptical. This book was easily read and held my interest, wasn't too mushy and had a little plot which kept me reading to the end. Lucy S.
This book offers a cute story. I love the female character in this book. I kind of feel like I have something in common with her, and it made it that much more enjoying to read!
A different type of book from Evanovich' Stephanie Plum book but a great love story I thoroughly enjoyed!
Very Fast Read. Cute book enjoyed it very much.
Cute romance - short and sweet.
This is a romantic novel about a handsome ship's captain, a wary wench from Jersey City, a hundred year old schooner and a "haunted" house. It's a great, quick and very enjoyable read. Enjoy!
Cute funny book by author of Stephanie Plum novels (One for the Money, etc.)
Even though this was an earlier novel by Janet E........It was wonderful. I was laughing outloud on several parts. If you like Janet's writing.......add this to your list to read.
A fun-filled read of people and romance.
Not a Stephanie Plum novel, but funny and romantic, just the same!
This from Janet Evanovich: "Love Overboard is a romantic tale about a handsome ship's captain; a wary wench from Jersey City; a hundred-year-old, two-masted schooner; and an entire town of shoemakers. Good light reading.
Great book, excellent author. Hard to put down!
I love the Plum novels more, but it was cute.
Romantic and hilarious!
Fun read.
Great book-short, funny, easy to read!
She is a great author!
This was a great book.
I didn't like this as well as her Plum books. But it is interesting in that it is nine short stories written early in her career.
Very cute and fun.
very good romance book.. funny.. witty..a great read
Light read by Evanovich. Funny characters who will keep you in stitches
Fun, easy read. Doesn't compare to the Plum books, but I enjoyed it.
Funny and sexy as Evanovich always is. Short easy read. I bought it to read on a plane ride and it made the ride more pleasant.
fun summer reading.
Very funny, great author.
An early work by Janet Evanovich, easy to see the future "Stephanie Plum" being developed here.
If you've read any Stephanie Plum novels (1-10 books) by Evanovich..you will love this one. Many, many laughs
Great beach book, amusing and light.
Pre-Stephanie Plum. A funny romantic comedy ****
I read this book in two days. If you like romance and you like Janet Evanovichs famous series you'll love this book. Its very cute.
This is a fun read. The heroine is roped into replacing her cousin as a ship's cook. She can't cook and the ship has a ghost!

Funny, cute ,fast read love adventure story. Originally posted as Ivan takes a wife. Ivan and Stephanie have ties . She buys his old family mansion to run a bed and breakfast. She works for her cousin on Ivan's boat to pay for repairs to the house. Many characters become involved . Love wins out . A must read to learn all the mystery and fun surrounding these two characters.
Originally published as "Ivan Takes a Wife" but I like the new title much better.
Nice, quick read!
Janet Evanovich is an excellent author. This is a romance and it is funny at the same time.
A delightful story - Evanovich usually writes a fun book.
I especially loved this Evanovich early novel. And old house, an old schooner, and an age-old love story.
Pure fluff but a fun and fast summer read about an ex-cop who finds refuge in Maine where she buys an old house that she wants to use as an Inn. Her trouble has only just begun when strange things start happening in her haunted house. Combine myterious happens with a handsome ship's captain and it isn't long before she is running into his bed.
This was a quick and funny read.
I read anything by Evanovich - this is certainly not a Stephanie Plum book but cute none the less!

Love Overboard is a romantic tale about a handsome ship's captain, a wary wench from New Jersey, A ghost, a hundred year old two-masted schooner; and an entire town of shoemakers.
A different twist from the usual action packed muder
mysteries we expect from Evanovich.

good book
Stephanie Lowe agrees to sub as ship's cook in exchange for plumbing repairs on her house. Ivan Rassmusen is wondering why his cook is AWOL, when a young lady rolls down the grassy bank and onto the cement walk in front of the boat. He never suspects that she is there for him.
cute little romance novel that is enjoyable and a fast read
Fun romance. When Stephanie Lowe bought the big old house in a small Maine town, she had visions of a charming bed-and-breakfast. What she didn't have was a vision of cooking on board a sailing ship, dealing with corpses crashing through windows, and falling in love with the descendant of a pirate.
I really enjoyed it. Evanovich is really funny.

One of Evanovich's early Light hearted romance novels. She has the light touch and humor found in her later Plum novels.
Cute, cute, cute. Second go round in reading it but well worth it for the chuckles.
Sinfully handsome schooner captain Ivan Rasmussen deserved to be called Ivan the Terrible, Stephanie Lowe decided. First he'd sold her a haunted house, and now he was laughing at her Calamity Jane cooking! She'd only agreed to work one voyage of his Maine coastal cruise in exchange for the house repairs promised by her cousin, who'd run off to marry a plumber. When the brazen Ivan, descendant of a pirate, swept her into his arms during a moonlight rendezvous, Stephanie knew how it felt to be a pirate's treasure! Ivan teased her, flirted with her, and made her feel cherished as no one ever had, but when would her sexy scoundrel deliver the ravishing he promised? Ivan had expected a shipboard romance, a fling on the ocean that ended at the dock, but every time he kissed Stephanie, he thought of marriage, hearth, and home. Could he seduce his ladylove with the sweet mysteries of passion and put her private ghosts to rest?
