Don't let the cute cover lead you to believe this is an easy-to-read rom com. Love and Other Mistakes, the debut novel from Australian author Jessica Kate, includes many (too many?) serious topics in its plot.
I moved this Christian fiction novel up my TBR pile after hearing an interview with the author. I knew she wove challenges into the lives of her characters, and while I appreciate complex novels, it felt like too many topics were being addressed in one novel. Any one of them could have been explored more fully as the focus of an entire novel. I also hoped the book would have more Aussie influences, but I think that occurs in the author's second novel A Girl's Guide to the Outback.
Overall, I enjoyed the reading experience of this debut and look forward to following this author's career.
