In this, one of Gaines early novels the reader experiences Louisiana 100 years post-slavery, but not really. Dialogue that is all too real: what people would say and the way in which they would say it. None of the trite, contrived drivel that flows glibly from the pens of our modern novelists! Here is another enjoyable book that you wont be able to put aside until tomorrow: a book that is still all too real.
