Marcus! He one tough dude. Aint nobody gowin make him do nothin. He knows it all. Hell show em. What he doesnt know is that hes being used as a pawn. Everyone else on the plantation knows how it will end, but will he listen? Not him! Cause he got it all figgered out. In this, one of Gaines early novels the reader experiences Louisiana 100 years post-slavery, but not really. Dialogue that is all too real: what people would say and the way in which they would say it. None of the trite, contrived drivel that flows glibly from the pens of our modern novelists! Here is another enjoyable book that you wont be able to put aside until tomorrow: a book that is still all too real.
