This is a sad story of a girl who went to Job Corps to better herself, but the Job Corps wasn't what she was led to believe and the other young people there weren't the best for her to associate with. Colleen called her mother wanting to come back home, but her mom encouraged her to stay and give the Job Corps a chance. Another girl became insanely jealous of Colleen and commited a horrifying crime.

Christa Pike, the youngest woman on death row in the state of Tennessee. She was a member of job corp in Knoxville, TN and she along with her boyfriend brutally murdered another member because she (Christa) thought the other girl (Colleen) liked her boyfriend.
Living here in the Knoxville area and knowing exactly where this took place really brought this heinious crime to life.
Good book, chilling.

Her eyes are really empty. I think I believe in possession. This is pure evil.

Sad tale of two lost young women. One was trying to get her life together, the other was about to take a life.

I grew up with Christa Pike. Our mothers were best friends (i.e. they partied together all the time). The book didn't even come close to describing the disturbed child Christa was. Even as a small child, she was creepy.

Yes a real must read. I was a Job Corps student and a friend of Colleen Slemmer. I find it sick that this woman who didn't know Colleen could write about something she had no clue about. There was much more to everything than this book states and Pike's love triangle story was a easy defense seeing as how it wasn't true. They killed her out of cold blood and the other 2 got off light. Total BS book.

The author repeated herself so often I skip read most of the book. Even the chapters that gave details left me wanting more understanding. I never got to know the people in this story, never made a connection to anyone. The worst true crime book I have ever read.
