This novel is typical Jules Verne. Take a bit of Norwegian culture, add a tad of travelogue of Norway, a little romance between separated lovers and you have the recipe that will stretch a short story into a mid-length novel that may be read easily in two to three hours. There is little unique to the plot: a shipwreck and rescue (no details concerning either), the lost lover returning at the critical moment, secrecy concerning some of the supporting characters and their involvement in the plot: all of which can be surmised easily. And, of course, everything turns out well and as expected for all concerned: in this case, even for the villain.
