You don't have to have a degree in History of Art or to speak Italian to enjoy Harr's book but it would make it more fun. Expect to to want to tour Italy soon or at least see the Italian paintings in a museum near you after reading!

Interesting book about lost art. The book doesn't just talk about Caravaggio but also the people who play apart in find his paintings.

I loved this book! I read it after I had been to Italy and fell in love with the Caravaggio's at the church mentioned in the book. I also had a trip planned to Ireland so I made sure I found the painting in the National Musuem in Dublin.

It is a fascinating read for lovers of art, Italy, Ireland, and people!

We read it for book club and it got mixed reviews. It was easy enough to get through although extremely/overly detailed. I love Art History and this made for an interesting topic. Not sure I'd recommend, but I was glad I read it, felt like I learned a thing or two.

This book describes the hunt for a lost Caravaggio painting. Various experts are looking for the lost Caravaggio independently and eventually it is traced to an unlikely place. It was interesting to read about how art is traced through old accounts of estates which sometimes mistakenly identify a painting that is sold or purchased. I did not realize that artists did not always sign their paintings so mistakes are made in the identity of paintings.

Interesting account of the discovery of a painting lost for hundreds of years. A true story that reads like fiction.
