She awoke in the woods beside a dead body. There was a knife in her hand, blood on her clothes. Had she killed the young woman who lay beside her? She couldn't remember. She couldn't remember anything. Not even her own name. It was as if someone had stolen her mind. Stolen her soul.

This series was extremely popular when I was in middle school (early 1990s) and I read about half the series. I loved all of Pike's works at the time, though now I have some slight issues with how he describes his female characters. For those who want a vampire series that is purely a fun, guilty pleasure, then this one's for you. The series does draw upon Indian mythology, most notably Shiva and Lord Vishnu, and those aspects of the books are quite fascinating.

This is another great teen thriller by Pike.
