A raging forest fire threatens Stella Sullivan's town in Montana, and Stella's family and many others have been evacuated from their homes. Pets and their owners are separated, and many animals are lost or injured. Stella comes to the rescue to help her aunt, a veterinarian, save an abandoned kitten with a burned foot. She also helps to separate fighting dogs, save horses from a burning stable, and care for a singed raccoon and a n abused grizzly bear cub. But what can she do for her dog, Rufus, who remains trapped in their home, int he path of the fire?
