Before watching the National Geographic film about the lost gospel of Judas, I thought the BIBLE was well, the BIBLE. My view was that whatever was in the Bible was the whole story. This NG film was a revelation (no pun intended)!
With the closing credits rolling down my screen, I had to find out more. Bart Ehrman, because he was interviewed by NG, seemed like a great place to start.
Some of the ideas Ehrman poses are new and stunning; I appreciated that he came back at a point from differing ways. It deepened my understanding, which was important -- as someone new to this subject.
I really like the mans style of writing. By the end of the book, I had a grasp of how this text related to the other Gospel texts both those in and outside of the BIBLE.
Ehrman raised the idea that Jesus may have had a completely different relationship with Judas. It was such a novel idea that I decided to study more on the subject of the Gnostic texts and other found texts (that are not included in the BIBLE).
This is my first book by Bart Ehrman, but it wont be my last!
