Written and published before the case went to trial, this book is much more about the criminal history of Jaycee's abductor and rapist, Phillip Garrido, than her actual case. Also considers some unsolved serial killings during the timespan and locale of his crimes.
The mistakes made by law enforcement and the parole system certainly confirm that the $20 million awarded Jaycee and her family was the right decision by then- California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, though the state of Nevada made even more severe oversights early in Garrido's criminal career that would have prevented Jaycee and other girls from ever being snatched.
Readers interested in JayCee's story might be better served by reading one of the other books on this topic, though the author does allude to the questions of Stockholm syndrome, possible abuse of her 2 daughters born in captivity, and her failure to try to escape without going into any depth.
