Spooky Season reading means something to each reader. For me, it must include a book written by Jaime Jo Wright. She's a unique voice in Christian fiction, penning creepy, unsettling stories that are always explained and hopeful at their end.

This tale was inspired by the beautiful Al. Ringling Theatre located in Wisconsin. Told in two timelines centered around the fictional Barlowe Theater, each features a heroine facing mysterious events that impact people closest to them. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Libby McKnight and Pilar Witherspoon, each narrating a heroine.

I enjoyed this story, but didn't connect with it as strongly as I have others by Ms. Wright. However, it was sufficiently spooky that I had to stop listening to the audiobook while working alone at night in our big office building.

I became somewhat annoyed with the heroine in the contemporary storyline because she perseverates on one aspect of her past which she believed will negatively impact her future. After reading the author's note, I discovered that this was deeply personal for the author as it reflects her childhood. I wish I'd known that before reading the novel as it would've provided a richer reading experience.

Thank you to Bethany House Publishers for the review copy of this atmospheric novel.
