This appealing story is well-paced and held my interest from start to finish. Ewan and Bride are an unusual and refreshing couple, for each has a background that is somewhat imperfect, and yet they are clearly perfect for one another. Ewan is a collector of erotic art and has a liking for all things sensual; Bride does not reject out of hand his rather unconventional hobby, but instead has a healthy curiosity about it. Both have great appreciation for the other's qualities, and they truly connect as soul mates on a physical, emotional and intellectual level. The story has many funny moments as Ewan tries to hide his irregular activities from the prying eyes of Bride's sisters and chaperone, all while they are living under his roof. The dialogue is thoughtful and intelligent, and the romance sensual and satisfying. Highly recommended.

This is an R-rated, or maybe an X-rated historical romance. Quite well written, but you probably wouldn't want your little sister to get hold of it.

When notorious seducer Ewan McLean reluctantly accepts the Scottish earldom left to him after a triple tragedy, he quickly learns that not all his new duties are onerous. Keeping an eye on the welfare of lovely if stubborn Bride Cameron and her three sisters is a pleasure, especially when he's kissing Bride, and his government-backed investigation into a banknote counterfeiting ring proves quite intriguing. But Bride knows one important thing about the counterfeiting ring that Ewan does not: the fake banknote plates can be traced back to her dead fatherand to her family, which would earn them forced transportation to Australia. And while she and Ewan can find common ground in each other arms, she well knows an earl wouldn't sully his reputation by marrying a criminal. Fortunately for her, Ewan still possesses a strong disdain for respectability. Snappily paced and bone-deep satisfying, Hunter's books are so addictive they should come with a surgeon general's warning. Each seems to grow a little more lighthearted than the last, yet Hunter (The Charmer) doesn't neglect the absorbing historical details that set her apart from most of her counterparts, engaging the reader's mind even as she deftly captures the heart.

This is my first read by the author. I enjoyed the sexual tension and romance. Ewan was erotic enough to make the desire really heated. I found some of the search for the plates to be a bit boring. However it is a quick read and one that allows the reader to get the romance, steamy sex and a driving need to read more.
a Scotland historical romance - what more can I say? It was very good.
I LOVE her books. Plenty of romance & intrique.
Hot, Hot. Hot. Madeline Hunter does it again with the sensual story set in Scotland.
(Spoiler) Not the best of the series by any means, this historical romance is the classic "rake reformed" read. Good for when the female reader chooses not to think very hard, the improbability of counterfeiting money to give to the poor & displaced renders the plot flawed.
Ewan McLean unexpectedly inherits an earldom, and so must keep a deathbed promise made to his uncle, the late earl. His new estate comes with responsibilities that do not agree with his previous life style. He must travel to the Highlands, and find some way to make amends to the man his uncle had wronged. When he arrives, he finds the man deceased, and survived by four daughters. They apparently have no money, and the estate is run down, but the girls are refusing all help from Ewan. He stays to investigate, and decides to seduce Bride Cameron, the eldest daughter. But, Bride is doing her best to get rid of him. The book is enjoyable, if a little drawn out in places.
I've loved this series and I think this book is the best so far!
Steamy romance
Not bad for a romance novel. I enjoyed it.
It was good, i like all her books.
Normally I stick with English or American romance novels, but I chose to go on the wild side with this Scottish-based novel. The characters are Scottish, but most of the novel takes place in England. Good read if you enjoy Scottish characters.
Scottish romance novel. Quick romantic read
Excellent! From start to finish! =)
its not that its a bad book, its just not my type. but if you like the main characters to get into trouble with the law then its for you.

Interesting as the reader doesn't really know what's going on until well into the book.
loved it

I completely enjoyed these characters. Very out of the ordinary. A forger and a very rowdy English Lord. Story moved quickly. Highly recommend.
Forgeries, stolen plates, certain papers, long lost lover....lies and secrets.
This is the first book I've read from Madeline Hunter so I don't know her writing style, this was good but not super great. For a man that loves to collect erotica his sex with Bride is lacking. They have a connection but he is to forward and she is to help back in guilt and fear. After he spends time with her in her homeland of Scotland he goes back to London and gets together with his married mistress who by the way isn't happy unless she spends tons of pounds on her, him with someone else after meeting his future love sets me off but I finished with this story. I've read other 'rake' romances but they didn't feel able to be with another. For me this was basically a mystery about stolen money plates, a missing man Bride fell for, how the two missing things are together, a romance with lies , and how they solved the case. Even if Bride might be charged and Ewan McLean Earl of Lyndale will have to hold up is job as an Earl and a seat in the government even if he has to lose the one women who did the unthinkable, claimed his heart and soul.
