Winner of the Iowa Short Fiction Award, Dilworth is a voice to be reckoned with. Many of her stores focus on the Finns and Native Americans who have carved out their lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a cold, stark land set between two of the Great Lakes. She speaks of small town life, of the unbearableness of being caught in the snowy white world for months on end, of the lure of alcohol, and of the desire to escape to the city.
