My 83 yr old  mom lives 2,000 miles away. We talk regularly, and two of my older bachelor brothers live with her. One of the issues that comes up regularly is how she answers the phone and starts talking to whoever is on the other end- and she has been scammed, and had near misses with phone scams. She tries too hard to be nice and starts second guessing herself. She totally falls for the psychology they use. Several times one of my brothers has gone to check on her when she's on the phone and they just take it from her and hang up on the conversation- not in a rough way, but certainly cutting off the scum on the other end. I'm trying to talk Mom into caller ID, which represents new and uncomfortable technology for her. But that won't stop her from answering the way she does. My brothers catch tons of it. They wonder what they've missed, too. I try and support them in their efforts. Any ideas for negotiating, or training her, or getting her to change the way she functions?
