Excerpt: The Royal Geographical Society, 3, Waterloo Place. -- This Society was founded in the year 1830, for the purpose of extending our knowledge of the Geography and Natural History of distant countries. Its Transactions are published two or three times a year, and contain valu- able maps and charts. One important branch of its operations is that of aiding, by grants of money, any favourable effort of geographical enter- prize. Every quarter of the globe bears testimony to the efficiency of these exertions. The meetings for the current session will take place at half past eight o'clock, P. m., on the following Mondays: -- January 8th, 22nd; February 12th, 26th; March 11th, 25th; April 22nd; May 13th; June 10th, 24th. -- The Anniversary Meeting, May 27th, at ten o'clock, p. M. The Royal Astronomical Society, Somerset House. -- The Charter of this Society, which was established in 1820, was granted in the year 1831, the object being the cultivation of the study of Astronomy; and amongst the members will be found some of the first mathematicians and astronomers of the age. The ensuing meetings will take place at eight o'clock, P. m., on the following Fridays: -- January 12th ; March 8th ; April 12th; May 10th; and June 14th. -- The Anniversary Meeting, February 9th, at three o'clock, P. m. The Royal Asiatic Society, 14, Grafton Street The original institution from which this Society took its rise, was designed by the late Sir William Jones, and formed at Calcutta, on the 15th January, 1784, for the purpose of tracing the History, Antiquities, Arts, Science, and Literature of the immense continent of Asia.
