Its 50s London and a first-time novelist is struggling with her creation. To keep life and limb together she takes a job as secretary to the Autobiographical Association at which she has to modify the memoirs of its members. She discovers two things. First the head of the association is evidently little more than a blackmailer, despite his English title. (Doesnt every English novel have a Lord or Lady?) Second the association seems to be a reflection of the characters in her yet-to-be finished novel. Life is imitating art and vice versa.
