Patricia Veryan is my favorite author and this is one of my favorite books by her. The plot is crisp and fun, the characters are AMAZING, and the ending is satisfying. Veryan has a way with secondary characters--always fun, whether they're good or evil. In this book, Senor Angelo is a hoot, with his terrible English--when he means to say "myself", he says "mices elves". This book is positively delicious!
Susan Henley had inherited Highperch Cottage legally-if somewhat notoriously-and no insufferable baron would cheat her out of the dear old place! She would fight Valentine Montclair with every weapon at hand.
But would she resort to foul play? Angry as she was, she most certainly would not.
Someone, however was trying to kill the proud, quick-tempered Montclair-who, by now, found himself completely enchanted by the spirited Susan and her delightful household-an attraction that could prove dangerous indeed....
