I had a hard time with this book about coming-of-age in a rural Ontario town. Although the story was mostly linear, I had a hard time with the timeline in the first half of the book. However, I began to see how the story was about Del's life in relation to other women in the story and how it was different from the experience of men as the story progressed. I'm glad to have been reading this book while I was on a trip to Canada, and to have read a work by a Nobel laureate from the list of 1001 books you must read before you die.
