Helpful Score: 1
This is an ingenious picture and text explanation of the Middle Ages. It is intended for an audience of kids from 8-years to 15-years-of-age. The text and artwork show the reader what people wore, what they would eat, and how they would spend their time -- all according to their status.
Cleverly, the author included a unique word or name, provided pronunciation and definition, and went on with the story. This was helpful without being distracting.
I have two suggestions. First, the print was appallingly small and difficult to read (granted I'm older than the intended audience). Second, there should have been some comment in the front that there was a glossary (in the back) to help understand things. However, the glossary supplied was wonderful.
From reading the blurb about the book, it is obvious that there are far more of these stories for younger readers. I look forward to checking them out. The information is well-explained and interesting to see and read.
