I absolutely LOVED this book!!! Rachel is kick ass and Jonas becomes such a cuddly cat, i love it!! they have great chemistry, besides in their blazing bedroom. Amber is so adorable. I think this was exactly what Jonas is about. and we finally find out about his lineage and actual Breed DNA, i was awed by it all. I didn't feel it laggin @ all, i too read it super late(3am) the day i started it. Jonas has always been the hardass and here he just melts. so so good!! Keeper status!! altho i keep all the breeds books. Seriously worth the wait. and hope a bagillion more still to come...

Excellent as always. Lora Leigh always gives a touching, graphic, explicit, well rounded story. You can always relate to her characters and their lives. The bad guys are just as complicated. As in real life, very few are truly all bad or all good. You really sympathize with the suffering of the characters. The intimate scenes are well written and erotic with out being sleazy. She stays true to the series. Always one of my favorite authors.

Finally, we get to hear Jonas' story!! I was really looking forward to reading Lion's Heat. I'm a big fan of Lora Leigh. She did not disappoint me. Although there were a few slow spots in the book, I found myself not wanting to put it down. I stayed up late and read the entire book the day I bought it. Lora wrote in several hints that makes me look forward to the next in the Breed series. I cannot wait for Cassie and also Erin's story (I hope!). Lora Leigh always leaves me wanting more. Good job, Lora!

Fantastic book! Jonas seems so hard and you can see how Rachel un-hardens his heart. This book has lots of steam and spice in it, but it did drag a bit. I kept waiting and waiting...and something finally did happen. :) Overall....HOT, STEAMY...I want a Breed of my own! ;o)

I'm torn about how many stars to give this book. I really enjoyed it but not as much as a couple of previous Breed books. Okay my one major complaint is the main female character - Rachel. Rachel is book smart and very savvy about Breed law, electronic codes, physical traits and much more. Unfortunately she is also daft, dumb, dim witted and totally lost to what is so obviously the unrequited, unconditional love of a compatible, cabable, gorgeous breed male (Jonas). She is not temporarily blind because of being hurt in the past or because of something Jonas has done to her. She is just selfish and clue free for no apparent reason. Her cluelessness goes on throughout the book for far too long and includes some accusations toward Jonas that are unforgiveable, like accusing him of wanting to give her child to 'the enemy'. Duh! He would never! It also took FOREVER for these two to have sex or encounter any intimacy at all! That being said, when the sex did happen it was extraordinary and well worth the wait. The book gives insight on Breed law and physiology. It also shares the characters in an up close, personal way that's classic Lora Leigh fashion. It is a really good read. I'll give it 4.5 Stars.

I eagerly awaited this book like many other Breed Series fans; however, it was not as good as I hoped it would be. I gave it 3 stars b/c enough of the old characters appear to make the tale interesting and keep forward moving on the whole Breed story. In addition, there are GREAT scenes with the Vanderale's en familie - mom, pop, sons, etc., which greatly redeem the novel and reveal some surprises.

I've read it several times thinking that perhaps I missed something important or revelatory facts re Rachel, the heroine's character. I didn't. A more unlikeable, unsympathetic and NARCISSTIC mate would be hard to write. I can't say more w/o revealing a spoiler. It's not the first time Leigh has brought in an unlikeable mate. In Bengal's Heart (two stars), she casts as a mate Cassa Hawkins, who was a borderline irritant/psuedo-villain in 3 prior novels.

Lion's Heat is weakened by something the writer does that is unworthy of her talent for storytelling. She does not expand or color in the Rachel's character. Rachel has no backstory, no character development at all. Page one of novel should really be page 50 or 100. The novel starts in the middle of a crisis situation that the reader knows nothing about. Yet the crisis is so important every major player is on the scene.

Back to Rachel, let me share what Ms. Leigh tells us about Rachel.

1) Parents are killed when she is young and she and her sister lose everything b/c her parents made no plans for the future.
2) She was raised/lived w/older sister Diana. Diana is now a take-no-prisoners mercenary.
3) She had an affair w/Devon Marshal in Switzerland, which resulted in her baby.
4) When she was a teenager, she organized Kane Tyler's office, etc. How is that believable?
5) She is able to use a vibrator competently.

You now know what I know about Rachel. You'll learn nothing else in the novel. Oh, number 6, she's a good mom.

I left out my comments about inconsistencies and contradictions in Breed lore, but Leigh scores so low on the Laurell K. Hamilton Inconsistent Scale (10=author is brain dead to 1=author must be tired.) Leigh score on the LKH inconsistency scale is a 6 - not for the number of inconsistencies but rather for their importance in Breed Lore. Otherwise, Leigh's score would be a 3.

Lion's Heat is worth a read but I personally think Jonas was shortchanged.

Happy Reading!

Others have done a great job detailing the plot. For me, it wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't as good as it should have been. Given the background on Jonas we've been given throughout various books in the series, there should have been more of his dominance, mind games, manipulations, and yes, even sexual mastery. As for Rachel, her characterization is pretty flat, which is unfortunate, but the chemistry between her and Jonas is intense. Beyond that, there were a plethora of editing mistakes, and the continuity left something to be desired, both in terms of scenes in this book, and how events from previous books mesh with what was revealed in this one.

So, as I said, it's far from being a bad book, but given that this was Jonas' book, I think that he, and the fans of him and the series, deserved more.

If you have never read any of the Breed series, don't start here, go back to the beginning. And if you are embarrassed by graphic sex scenes, this series is not for you. But even with the sexual component to this series, there is a story about a new race of humans fighting for their own place in this world. The story is moved along with Jonas finally coming to terms with himself and his issues with his biological parents. Rachel helps him find his peace so he can continue to protect Sanctuary and all the Breeds still alive. Jonas captures a key player in the Genetics council who claims he has "altered" his and Rachels daughter. If Jonas keeps him alive, he will tell him all he needs to know. As this series continues, we see alot of previous characters return and are updated on their lives as well. I really like the story that is being developed and have become attached to the characters in the Breed.

I love Lora Leigh, she has never let me down. Lion's Heat Is part of her breed series, this book is about Jonas Wyatt and Racheal. If you follow the series you have learned about Jonas already. In this book Jonas knows that racheal is his mate, but holds back from claiming her because she is pregnant and he can sense her reluctance. But once Jonas's risk and games put Racheal and her child in danger all bets are off. This is a wonderful alpha man book, with alot of twists that keep you reading. I suggest this book and the whole series to everyone.

Jonas is a hard man that has done things he is not proud of to protect the breeds. He has played a key role in many of the enforcers finding their mates. He doesnt want Rachel to see that he is more animal than man.

Rachel is very reluctant when she finds out that she is Jonas mate. Merinus has told her all about the mating heat and she is scared of it but she is more scared of losing her heart to him. Rachel is pregnant when she starts working for Jonas then a few months later she makes the mistake of telling her ex about the baby.

It is so nice to see the softer side of Jonas when he is connecting with Amber, both in the womb and once she is born. He considers her his and has sworn to protect both her and Rachel at all costs. After she is kidnapped, he realizes that the only way he can protect them is to take them to Sanctuary.

He wants to give Rachel the time to love him and the chance to choose whether she wants to be his mate or not. At Sanctuary he tries to be patient with her but Rachel has a habit of pushing his buttons and he has a hard time keeping his control. She is drawn to him like no other and wants to blame the mating heat for the attraction. Ever since she saw his picture on TV years ago, he has fascinated her. She enjoys the verbal sparring and seeing how far she can push him.

Rachel is not only a good mate for Jonas, she is the perfect personal assistant for him. She may have been reluctant at first but the whole time she was fighting for what was hers by standing up to Ely and the Leo. She is efficient, capable of dealing with Jonas and honest. She brings out his softer side and shows him that he is worthy of love just like everyone else.

The mating heat takes an interesting turn in this book, while new discoveries are made. I loved learning more about the history of Jonas, Dane and the Leo. You get to follow up on several previous characters including Harmony, Sherra, Ely, David and many others. The book answers a lot of questions and leaves you with more.

I highly recommend this book to any Lora Leigh fan. It was one of my favorite breed stories yet along with Dawns Awakening and Mercurys War. The emotional connection had me from the beginning. I give this book 4 ½ Flaming Hearts.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I was so looking forward to the story of Jonas Wyatt, the engimatic director the Bureau of Breed Affairs. I really wanted him to have a mate that was his equal. This doesn't happen. I'm hoping the woman in this book is a false mate like Mercury and his mate in the labs.

In the previous Breed books, we've seen that Jonas Wyatt is an extremely intelligent, manipulative, power player who has a single focus. He wants to make sure his people, the genetically engineered animal/humans, survive and thrive in the world. He's one big bad alpha Breed who invokes fear in even the toughest of opponents. He deserved a mate who was equally tough and smart. I didn't feel he got a mate that was his equal. He needed someone similar to Ria who is Mercury's mate. Someone who wasn't weak or timid or hysterical. Even Dr. Ely would have been a better match for Jonas. Who does he get? Rachel, his secretary, who for nearly two thirds of the book won't even let him kiss her. Seriously, if an alpha male Breed were to ever come into my life and say I was his lifemate, I wouldn't hesitate to kiss him! Especially not if the Breed is Jonas Wyatt, the handsomest, biggest baddest Primal Lion Breed in the series. Who would turn down Jonas except a heroine who is too stupid to live?

There are so many scene continuity errors in this book that I wonder if the editor was asleep. It's also never explained how Rachel can control her emotions as well as a Breed. Is she a recessed Breed? If not, what is she? How does she have that control and who taught her that? She's able to fool Jonas a few times and you know that's not easy to do!

The character development was flat. I felt there needed to much more information on Rachel. We never get a good sense of her past, her family other than her sister, or what she's really like. She pops out of nowhere as a super efficient secretary/financial expert. If you didn't know Jonas from the previous books, you really wouldn't get a good sense of him in this book, but again most of us have read the previous 20 books so I'll give Leigh a pass on Jonas. Still, she should have done a better job with developing Rachel's character. Rachel came off as whiny, stupid, prudish, and inconsiderate.

I expected more gloating, teasing from the Breed Enforcers now that Jonas is under the Mating Heat. There's really nothing like that. No humor at all. Given how often Jonas manipulated the others into finding their mates, it's shocking that more isn't made of his past.

The actual sexual scenes between the two are pretty tame compared to say what's in Tanner's Scheme or Megan's Mark. Given how dominant he is in all other aspects of his life, it was a disappointment that he was so mushy and so not an alpha male. I expected to see more of his um..expertise in that aspect. I expected there to be something similar to the sink scene between Vishous and Jane in JR Ward's Lover Unbound book.

I give this book 2.5 stars.

Jonas has finally met is match in Rachel. One person he can try to work to his way but she will not let him control or play his games with. Even after her baby Amber was born and used in Brandenmore's games. Now Jonas is on the hunt to bring Brandenmore down and find out what he injected Amber with. Rachel is scared but more scared for her daughter when she is changing almost everyday, on top of that she is even more scared if she conceives a child by Jonas and that child will be even more dangerous to the Breed nation and the humans.
