This is book #5 of the Newpointe 911 series. As good as all the others! Great read!
Attorney Jill Nichols was on the top floor, taking a deposition from CEO Donald Merritt for a case of corpotate stock fraud. Directly below them on the twenty-ninth floor, Merritt's assistant was about to discover the explosive device in time to alert the building-but not to empty it.
Excellent reading. Suspenseful from beginning to end.

The reader returns to Newpointe, Louisiana, for the fifth time and it's still a pleasant little burg to visit. Allie and Mark have a baby; Jill and Dan are settling in as newlyweds, as are preacher Nick and his paramedic wife, Issie. However, their idyll shatters when a 30-story building in New Orleans becomes an inferno thanks to three bombs placed at interval levels. Jill is taking a deposition when the explosions occur, and of course Dan and all of the Newpointe 911 responders offer their services.
Blackstock throws in a minor subplot about Iranian students being held for questioning (mostly due to racial profiling following 9/11) and this feels racist here. The bomber's identity is a neat plot twist. Jill's semi-adoption of a ragged, insecure girl whose mother was killed provides part of the story, as does her husband Dan (who is missing and presumed dead at the start)'s loss and eventual recovery.
Dan's mother is a caricature of a spoiled heiress and adds nothing to the story, except to irritate the people of Newpointe, Jill in particular. Dealing with grief and loss after a tragedy are handled fairly well, although I am truly sick of Christian authors having their characters state that they don't understand why good people suffer. Anyone who has studied the Bible can explain this fairly easily.

Laughter, tears, joy, sadness, it's all in this book! It is the best in this series, Newpointe 911. After reading this series I feel like I want to read every book this author has written. Can't wait to start another.
A continuation of the Newpointe 911 series written after 911. Very good story/
Final book and as good as the others. Surprise ending, but a good finale to the series. Will miss the characters, but she has others to meet in other series.
At least we won't miss the author.

Once again this author held my attention and I was not without tears at all the things that happened. I am sorry this is the last book about Newpointe because I really like all these people. It is a good story and she does a great job weaving faith and reality through out the story. The questions raised are questions some of us have asked. This is one author I will read more of in the very near future.
Another fine written story. I didnt let it down till the middle of the night, I had read every word and enjoyed it.
IMO this one was the best in the series! I couldn't put it down, it was suspensful from beginning to end. I really did not see the twist coming as to who the real bomber was; that blind sided me! Love this series and all the real flawed characters!
Love Terri Blackstock books........
Elderly neighbor loved these books!
Another excellent Blackstock thriller

At the request of her many fansTerri Blackstock revisits the heroic cast of characters in this fifth book in her best-selling Newpointe 911 series
In Line of Duty, a bomb explodes at the Icon International building in New Orleans while lawyer Jill Clark Nichols is in the top floor boardroom. The thirty-story building goes up in flames and fire departments from all around the area are called in. The firefighters from Newpointe are especially concerned since they know Jill is inside the building. Dan, her husband, rushes in to save her. But as firefighters work to evacuate the upper floors of the building, a second and third bomb explode, causing the lower floors to cave in. Firefighters and civilians are buried beneath the rubble.
When the smoke finally clears, a count is taken. Jill narrowly escapes the chaos of the explosions and fire only to find Dan missing.
Were the bombs the act of a terrorist, or a scheme coming from a heart of greed? Can Jills faith carry her through these long days of pain and uncertainty? And will Dan survive this tragedy . . . or sacrifice his life in the line of duty?
