Incredible book about the US war effort in the Pacific in the months following Dec 7, 1941. Describes hard-fought battles on the islands. Of course, main story is about how the US was able to track Admiral Yamamoto (the architect of the attack on Pearl Harbor) and get revenge with the only plane capable of flying the distance to and from a rendezvous with Yamamoto's flight-the P-38 Lightning!
