Mitford's village rector, Father Tim, is running scared. he can no longer deny (even to himself), that he's in love with his neighbor, Cynthia Coppersmith. Cynthia, after all, sees in him a man of warmth and daring--if only he'll meet her halfway. But now a wealthy widow is pursuing Father Tim with hot casseroles. And the mysterious Cousin Meg has moved into the rectory bag and baggage--not to mention uninvited.
Abounding with characters both old and new, A Light in the Window will compel you to laugh out loud. GReat book and read.

This book continues the story of Father Tim's adventures in the small town of Mitford, NC. The small town's sleepy pace contrasts with the busy tension of Father Tim's commitments and difficulities. The reader joins the pastor on his emotional roller coaster--which ends with a picture of how deep friendships the small town can get. Throughout both books one and two the reader is also taken on a journey between the town's history and its present, tying the two together.
This book contained more of a "romance novel" aspect than the first--which is not a genre that I enjoy. Because of that, I rate this book a little lower than the first. However, I still enjoyed it, and I look forward to finding out what happens next!

Fr. Timothy is learning about love in the 2nd book of the Mitford series. Not only has he developed a fatherly love for Dooley, the young, scruffy boy who has nowhere to call home, but he has to wrestle with his true feelings for his neighbor, Cynthia. A sweet, sentimental and lovely read.

Back of book:
His attractibve neighbor is tugging at his heartstrings. A wealthy widow is pursuing him with hot casseroles. And his red-haired Cousin Meg has moved into the rectory, unvinvited.
As you see, Mitford's rector and lifelong bachelor, Father Tim, is in need of divine intervention. In this beautifully crafted second novel in the Mitford series. Jan Karon delivers a love story that's both heartwarming and hilarious. Only time will tell if the village parson can practice what he preaches.

This is good for light reading. It's the heartwarming second novel in the Mitford Series about a little town with a big heart. There are colorful Southern characters, lots of small town flavor, a very sweet G-rated romance, and a bit of intrigue. There's nothing offensive or graphic in this book. It's the kind of book you can give your grandmother without fear she'll be shocked by it. It's got some Christian overtones, but not too much. I'm not a big fan of preachy books, but this doesn't cross the line into proselytizing.

A Light in the Window is the second installment in this enormously popular series about a small-town rector, Father Tim, and the heartwarming cast of characters surrounding him. This time Father Tim, a lifelong bachelor, finds his heart distracted by his free-spirited neighbor Cynthia, but his stomach and the rectory cash box are distracted by Edith, a wealthy widow who is wooing the rector with love potion casseroles. At every turn, including when a brooding Irish cousin decides to move in, Father Tim must decide whether he will practice what he preaches.
Fans of the series say they long to buy real estate in Mitford, just so they can live next door to these funny and endearing characters and feel the embrace of such a loving community. But what author Jan Karon probably knows, and many readers are starting to figure out, is that the integrity and solid Christian values that these characters possess can be found in just about every neighborhood, and with inspiration like this book, anyone can build their own Mitford community. --Gail Hudson

It's clear that Father Tim is in need of divine intervention.
