Tricia Goyer's account of the Titanic sinking is one of many books released this year during the 100th anniversary, but one of the best. What happens when you mix the Titanic sinking with the biblical Prodigal Son story? A fun read! Amelia, Quentin, and Damien are well-written characters. I think some of the funniest moments of the book came in Amelia's letters from her intended in New York! The descriptions of the Titanic's decor, class accommodations, and meals brought me right onto the ship. Knowing that the ship was going to sink, I wondered who would live and who would die among all the people, real and imagined, in this story. The scenes when the ship sank and the survivors couldn't help all those poor people in the water were gripping; they really made the sinking more real to me.

This story takes place on the Titanic about a young woman who is travelling across the ocean to meet a man she has been writing letters with for a while. He has paid for her passage, her aunt's passage, and a cousin of hers who can't come along with them. She decides to give her extra ticket to a disheveled man who was trying to sneak on the ship.

This story also is a more modern telling of The Prodigal Son from The Bible. Quentin has been going through a lot of issues and his high class father and brother have been looking for him, but he is too ashamed to see them after how he has ruined his father's inheritance.

This is a beautiful love story about trusting in God and seeking to forgive yourself and others for the pain felt from past mistakes. It is about helping others and not judging people poorly, but encouraging them towards doing right.
