An unusual setting and great story that comes together well. Not many of us could imagine what it would be like to live alone in a lighthouse for months at a time. Fun read.

This book is very well written, and the story is full of good people, bad decisions, courage, love, loss and healing.

I had a very hard time putting it down, but unfortunately, sometimes you just don't have the time to read, no matter how good a book is.

I highly recommend this book, but I will warn you...there is sensitive subject matter, in regards to miscarriages, and that could be hard for some readers.

I found myself putting it down and wondering what I would have done in Isabel's place? In Tom's or even in Hannah's?

This book is horribly sad, but basically it is about love and what love can bring you and what love can take away. All the characters were sad and had been dealt a rough blow by life. Just the circumstances of living in Australia at the end of World War I, of choosing to live as a lighthouse keeper and of having the bad luck of not being able to give birth to living children. I sympathized with every character, Tom, Isabel, Lucy, Hannah, even the small characters. But, at the of the day this book was slow, sad and not much fun to read.

Book Description
The years-long New York Times bestseller and Goodreads Best Historical Novel that is "irresistible...seductive...with a high concept plot that keeps you riveted from the first page" (O, The Oprah Magazine)--soon to be a major motion picture from Spielberg's Dreamworks starring Michael Fassbender, Rachel Weisz, and Alicia Vikander, and directed by Derek Cianfrance.

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day's journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby's cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a "gift from God," and against Tom's judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

"Elegantly rendered...heart-wrenching...beautifully drawn" (USA TODAY), The Light Between Oceans is a gorgeous debut novel, not soon to be forgotten.

My Review
This was a very good read right from the start and was a page-turner all the way through. I enjoyed the author's writing and will definitely read another book written by her. The characters were well-developed and the plot was excellent and kept me riveted to the story. The book had a great moral lesson of right and wrong and was beautifully delivered. I cried at the ending which had very tender moments and I didn't want the book to end. I highly recommend this book to those who love well-written historical stories with a lot of heart.

An amazing story that will stay with you long after you have finished the last page. Heartbreaking, happiness, strength and grit. The characters are real and well developed so easy to understand each of their needs. Don't miss reading this story.
