Ms. Copeland has a strong clear voice. Her story is very interesting given the nature of who she is and the history she has made. This is her history as a ballerina in her own words and it was interesting to read about how she came to be where she is and how she feels about it. She seems to struggle with her emotions while writing this book and at times it feels like you are not hearing her true feelings as she seems to not want to offend anyone. However, that could be a by product of writing about things and people that are currently in your life. All in all I enjoyed this memoir immensely. Ms. Copeland provides a narrative that is engaging and readable while providing insight and history into the world of Ballet.
This is an incredible tale from the woman who lived it. Misty is passionate, talented but oh so sensitive. Nevertheless, she competes consistently in spite of pain and strives to become better and better. I loved the story she told and hope someday to see this incredible woman perform. Even the photo of her as The Firebird is so moving. How can anyone portray so much in a photograph? Misty can and did. If you are inclined to read biographies pick this one up. It's enchanting, inspiring and moving. She is ballet at its finest!
