Fascinating, firsthand memoir of a young white man's life among the Piegan Blackfeet in Montana Territory. Includes detailed accounts of religious ceremonies and customs, child-rearing, food preparation, tanning buffalo hides, war parties, raids, and much else. Of great interest to ethnologists and students of Native American history.

" No fiction of the old West can compare with this rare personal account of a dedicated adventurer. His sojourn among the Blackfoot Indians, his love affair with the beautiful Indian girl who became his bride, his unique experiences as a member of the tribe...on hunts and on the warpath...are unfolded in spellbinding detail." from the book cover

I have read many diaries and true accounts of the early west; some of them are tantalizingly sparse. This book is the best written account I have read, with much better details about how they lived, ate, traveled and worked. Surprisingly good, non-fiction.
