Helpful Score: 1
First book in a series that spans the end of wwII through around 1975-ish.
Covers a cast of characters as the writer tells the behind the scene stories of Army aviation (helicopters). Its not a history novel but a very fun, enjoyable, flying by the seat of your pants, action pack, kick butt kinda story.
remainder books are "The Captains", "The Majors", "The Colonels", "The Generals" and several sideline books "The Aviators" etc... that make this one hecka a top story to read.
If you got the time I highly recommend everyone read the whole series - will give you a very good perspective on our military.

Din not care for this series as much as the other ones he has done. The Badge of Honor Series is by far his best work.
The characters are humorous. He is very descriptive. The story line is interesting in all of its twists. Very much enjoyed.
EXCELLANT WAR STORY
They were the young ones, the bright ones, the ones with the dreams. From the wastes of North Africa to the bloody corridors of Europe, they answered the call gladly.
War -- it was their duty, their job, their life. They marched off as boys and they came back -- those who made it -- as soldiers and professionals, forged in the heat of battle.
"Captures the rhythms of WW II army life... an absorbing account of life among military men." (Publishers Weekly)
THE LIEUTENANTS is the first in W.E.B. Griffin's Brotherhood of War series.
