As I'm a history nut myself, I found this book to be an excellent read. We also have an "historical marker" in my town that distorts history. There were two Civil War 'battles' in my town, but the marker only honors the Confederate victory. The first battle, a decided Union victory, is ignored. And, if you mention it, the chair of the board of directors for the local museum says that story was made up. Makes you wonder why some Confederate soldiers who fought in that battle, and lost it, decided to include this 'made-up' battle in their memoirs.

I also agree with the author that providing the 'dark' side of our history is worthwhile. How else can we teach new generations to avoid the mistakes we and past generations made? And, it is time we started erecting markers to honor non-whites and women of all colors. After all, all were Americans.

I found it amusing that some women were only honored with markers because of the men they were married to. Boy, talk about sexism. (By the way, I'm a white male.)
