When I ordered this book, it was because it was a true crime story by an author I was familiar with. When it arrived, I was surprised to find out that it was not just about a murder which took place in the state I grew up in, but the actual TOWN I grew up in, to a man who was in my graduating class in high school!
So, all this aside, this is a VERY detailed account of this bizarre murder-by-hire, perpetrated by a young lawyer, Beth Ann Carpenter, obsessed with obtaining custody of her young niece. Beth Ann becomes convinced that her brother-in-law is the one thing standing in the way of her family obtaining custody and puts a hit out on him.
I found the motivation for the murder very strange, and was a little surprised that the whole scenario wasn't explored a little deeper, but all in all, it is a very engrossing read.

This is interesting. It shows what depths a person can go to get their own way.
Great read! Unbelievable what the AUNT did to try and get her niece and what a strange family.
M. William Phelps is one of my favorite True Crime authors. Even though I was familiar with this case I was still on the edge of seat while reading this. He does a fabulous job keeping you in suspense wondering what wil happen next. A great read!
aunt wants custody of niece and nothing will stop her!
