First in the Culinary Mystery series. Taking place in Colorado, Sadie Hoffmiller is a widow with two children in college. Sadie keeps herself very busy with cooking, taking care of her neighbors and being involved in lots of different charity work. A very kind-hearted soul. When a friend is murdered just down the street and her two year old son disappears, Sadie decides that she needs to help figure out this case, especially as one of the detectives seems intent only on pinning the murder on her. This is a very clean cozy, the main plot is good and it takes many twists and turns throughout. I surely had no idea who the killer was until Sadie did. The only trouble with Sadie is that she is the proverbial "it was dark in the cellar, but I knew I had to go down there..." type character. Delightful book and I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

There are so many cozy books out there with recipes. How do you read and rate them all?
This is a newer cozy series and there are many many things make it stand out in the crowd. Our main character is 59 is but very fit. She is very happy with herself, her life, her family, her choices. She doesnt have big issues to over come. She isnt snarky, vain or have fetish for shoes.
There is a good balance between her involvement and the line between interference and just how the police handle her meddling. I thought it was the best I had read in some time. The police were not portrayed as arrogant, or negligent or indifferent. I think the exact line was something like, Your interference has cost us hours of delay in this investigation. If you had told us what you know we could have detained this guy.
I also liked that all the characters were important.
I seldom feel inclined to use any of the recipes in these books, since they are often over complicated or not something I would want to eat. These recipes looked simple but seemed to scream, I will taste like grandma made.

Was able to figure it out early on....the Who, but not all The Why! Sadie Hoffmiller kind of irritated me ! I will give the series another chance by reading the next book in the series!
Not a huge fan, maybe that is because the main character is so hard to get behind. She is quoting exact times of the day all the time, who does that? She is always talking about food, which I guess is the premise behind the themed book but still. She is unbelievably nosy and I can't imagine the police would really let her do what she did. Also don't like how the adultery was a huge theme in the book.
